How to restart Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Service

After changing specific settings in SQL Server 2008, it asks you to restart the service.  Well using the normal services.msc application isn't the right place to be restarting it.  You will find the correct one under the SQL Configuration Manager.

You can do this by navigating to Start -> All Programs -> Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 -> Configuration Tools -> Sql Server Configuration Manager.

On the left hand side you will see SQL Server Services. Click that and on the right hand side you will now see SQL Server (Your Instance Name). Right Click -> Restart

You have successfully restarted the SQL Service.
